Court Remands Cleric, Varsity CSO In Prison Custody Over Alleged Felony, Conspiracy

An Enugu Magistrates’ Court, has remanded Ogbonna Okey and Rev. Fr. Isaac Jinga, chief security officer (CSO) and dean of students’ affairs respectively of Madonna University, Enugu Campus in prison custody till Tuesday, July 21, for alleged felony and conspiracy to kill two students of the university, whose names were given as Lord Aondaofa and Stanley Okoye,

The CSO and the Catholic priest were arraigned on Tuesday, July 14 2015, by the Enugu state Police Command in suit No MEN/87c/2015.

The two-count charge reads:

“That you, Rev. Fr. Isaac Jinga ‘M’, Ogbonna Okey ‘m’ and others at large on 3/2/2015 at Madonna University, Akpugo Campus, Nkanu West Magisterial District holden at Enugu did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit: causing grievous bodily harm and thereby committed an offence, punishable under Sec. 495(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Laws of Enugu state, 2004.

“That you, Rev. Fr. Isaac Jinga, Ogbonna Okey, and others at large on the same date and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did with intent to maim, disfigure or disable cause grievous bodily harm to one Stanley Ifeanyi Okeye, by hitting him with iron rod at his neck and all over the body which caused him injury in the spinal cord, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 288(a) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II of the laws of Enugu state 2004”

The accused persons pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

The presiding magistrate, Nkemjika Anibueze, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody, after counsel to the accused persons and the prosecutor had addressed the court on whether it (court) had jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

The case was later adjourned to July 21, 2015.
